Lightning strike in Hawthorne sparks garage fire
A Hawthorne resident is still in shock Friday after a lightning strike from Thursday's storm sparked a garage fire.
Lorraine Eisner says she still can't believe the sequence of events that caused devastation to her home. Around 6 p.m. Thursday, Eisner says a crack of lightning struck a massive tree in her backyard. The electrical current from the lightning then traveled nearly 60 feet from the tree through a metal fence and into the garage, sparking a fire.
Flames filled the garage and destroyed Eisner's new car.
"It was awful," says Eisner. "Oh forget about it. You just couldn't imagine the intensity of that, the heat and everything from it."
Eisner says she is just thankful that only her garage was damaged and that no one was hurt. She says she is a little worried for another storm since she lives alone with her dog.
