Rapper and Yonkers native DMX is in "grave condition" at White Plains Hospital following a heart attack, his lawyer confirmed to News 12.
Attorney Murray Richman told News 12 that the rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, "may have traumatic brain damage as a result of the attack."
"I learned he was without oxygen for a number of minutes, which may have resulted that brain damage," he told News 12.
Simmons has had a highly publicized past, including substance abuse, stints in rehab, legal problems and federal prison time for tax fraud.
Along with his rap careeer, he has also starred in films "Belly," "Romeo Must Die" and the 2003 heist film "Cradle 2 The Grave."
TMZ reported that the heart attack was brought about by a drug overdose. Richman said he had "no knowledge of that, at all."
