A lawyer appointed to the state's economic development agency by Gov. Andrew Cuomo was critically injured in an early morning shooting in Brooklyn Monday.
Carey Gabay, first deputy counsel for the Empire State Development Corporation, was struck in the head by a stray bullet, officials said.
"This tragic shooting is the latest heartbreaking reminder that the crime of gun violence must stop," the governor said in a statement.
Several others were wounded around New York City by gunfire Monday morning, and one person was stabbed to death, according to police.
