Frigid temperatures coupled with snow and ice are wreaking havoc on water mains in the Hudson Valley. The latest pipe to burst occurred about 10:30 p.m. Monday on North James Street in Peekskill.
Water gushed down Main to Bank streets causing a closure for a time but Main Street has since reopened.
Crews on the scene this morning tell News12 there are at least three different size pipes in the area of the break and they are trying to determine which one will need to be replaced. They say people in the area do have water although some along North James Street may experience low water pressure as crews continue to work. Some people may see discolored water, and crews say to simply let the tap run about a minute until it's clear.
Currently, North James Street is closed as work continues, and Bank Street is closed due to ice covering the street as a result of the water main break.
