Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, which means plenty of New Yorkers will be hitting the road for one last celebration.
For those traveling, expect busy roads – a whopping 32% of Americans are planning to travel this weekend, with the majority expected to drive.
In New York City, the average price for gas is $4.02 per gallon, a tick up from the national average of $3.82. The national average is the highest it’s been since 2012, according to AAA.
For those taking to the skies, the busy travel doesn’t slow down. Approximately 12.5 million people are expected to fly for the holiday weekend, despite about 55,000 flight cancellations in the U.S. since the Friday before Memorial Day.
The Department of Transportation announced Thursday that 90% of major airlines guarantee meals, with 80% guaranteeing hotel accommodations for when an airline’s issue causes a delay or cancellation.
