Ken Jenkins signed his first piece of legislation as Westchester County executive on Tuesday and it was in support of affordable housing.

The legislation that he signed is a Land Acquisition Act.

It allocated $10 millions for the purchase of property in downtown White Plains for the construction of affordable housing.

The property includes two buildings located at 99 Church St. and 6 Cottage Place.

Jenkins said the purchase will allow for the development of 108 affordable homeownership units for first-time buyers and 89 parking spaces.

"We understand that [the] cost of living is high. Westchester is certainly one of the highest tax[ed] counties in the country, but everything that we can do from the county perspective, [including] working with our partners at the state level and at the White Plains municipal level, we're going to do," Jenkins said.

Jenkins said the developers are trying to close this project quickly so they can start construction within the next few months.
