Jury selection began Monday for the "Corridor of Corruption" scandal that hit New York City and the Hudson Valley last year.

At the center of the case is the allegation that Democratic state Sen. Malcolm Smith tried bribing his way into the New York mayoral race as a Republican. Former New York City Councilman Daniel Halloran (R) is accused of setting up the bribes. Vincent Tabone, former vice chair of the Queens Republican Party, allegedly accepted one of the bribes.

Former Bronx GOP Chairman Joseph Savino and former Spring Valley Deputy Mayor Joseph Desmaret have both already pleaded guilty in connection to the case. Former Spring Valley Mayor Noramie Jasmin is expected to go on trial later this year.

A total of 39 potential jurors were questioned today.
