The Jersey City community came together Sunday to celebrate the 66th annual Puerto Rican Day Parade.

The annual celebration brought music, color and Puerto Rican pride to the streets of Jersey City as hundreds gathered to honor the island’s culture and traditions.

The parade started at Lincoln Park on Belmont Avenue making its way through the city and ending at city hall.

For many, the parade was a chance to showcase their heritage and celebrate what makes their community unique.

"This is where we all been born and raised in New Jersey and Jersey City," said David Arroyo, member of District Council 21, the New Jersey Painters Union. "This is this is our home and we celebrate our day once a year."

Others came out to show their Puerto Rican pride and pay tribute to their favorite artists, including global superstar Bad Bunny.

"A lot of people have told me I look like him," said Dennis Carrion. "And honestly, he's accomplished so much and I respect him so much from what he does on and off the microphone. And so I'm honored to be able to represent him here today.

Hudson County Executive Craig Guy, Gov. Mikie Sherrill and local organizations were among those taking part in the celebration.

"We have one of the largest Puerto Rican populations in the country here in New Jersey, Outside Puerto Rico," Sherrill said. "And they, really been such a major part of our culture here, baseball, music, food. And so it's wonderful to be here today to celebrate all of that."

The parade continues to be one of Jersey City’s biggest cultural celebrations, bringing generations of families and community members together.
