A new interactive map created by the New York League of Conservation Voters shows that 18% of water service lines in the Bronx are made of lead. In neighborhoods like Pelham-Throgs Neck, that number rises to 25%.
Lead exposure can be harmful to brain development and overall health. Experts recommend using cold tap water, testing your water for lead, and regularly cleaning faucet screens to reduce risk. Replacing lead service lines is the most effective solution.
The map, based on data from the Department of Environmental Protection, allows residents to search their area to see if they may be affected.
