A transformer fire shut down a busy street and temporarily left hundreds of residents without power in New Rochelle Thursday morning.
The fire broke out around 4:45 a.m. on Church Street near Isaac Young Middle School and Trinity Elementary School. The road was closed between Pelham Road and Trinity Place but reopened around 8:30 a.m.
Trinity Elementary School briefly lost power but opened on time. Some parents had to use alternate routes for drop-off due to the road closure.
Con Edison reported that 1,300 customers were without power in the area for a few hours.
