The American Jewish Committee's Thanksgiving Diversity Breakfast returned Thursday morning for its 22nd year at Iona University, drawing officials and residents from diverse backgrounds who advocated for unity in the region.
The event's theme, "Standing Together: Hate Will Not Divide Us," resonated as hundreds of Hudson Valley residents gathered, emphasizing shared values and a push for positive change. It comes amid a rise of antisemitic and anti-Palestinian crimes due to the Israel-Hamas war.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer, the keynote speaker, shared sentiments of solidarity.
"This breakfast gives me hope that I'm not alone. That you, my friends, are all with me on the same journey... What sacrifice have we prepared for there to be unity and peace? And if we can answer that question, my friends, then the mission of this breakfast has been accomplished," Latimer said.
Rep. Mike Lawler also addressed the morning's gathering, urging unity among all races and faiths, a message reinforced after his recent visit to Israel.
