Saint Joseph's Medical Center says that a patient with a fever arrived at the hospital Tuesday afternoon after visiting a country on the watch list for Ebola.

The downtown Yonkers hospital did not disclose information on the patient or what country they came from, but says it performed testing and is waiting for the Health Department to see what to do next.

The patient is currently being kept isolated in a separate area in the hospital.

The Westchester County Health Department released a statement that said, "All appropriate infection control measures are in place, including isolation and personal protective equipment for health care providers."

Ebola is a potential deadly virus that claimed the lives of thousands of people in West Africa. Four cases were tracked back to the United States, including one in New York City. Of the American cases, only one in Texas was fatal. 

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the 2014 Ebola epidemic was the largest in history, prompting drills and updates to emergency practices by hospitals across the U.S.

Health Department officials say the most common diagnosis of travelers with fever returning from Ebola-affected countries is malaria.
