The Westchester County Center was lit up yellow Thursday to remember the 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust for International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Thursday marked the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

County Executive George Latimer said, "the horrors of the Holocaust, which have been well-documented, can never afford to be forgotten."

Latimer was joined by Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center director Millie Jasper.

Jasper spoke about the value of Holocaust remembrance in the classroom, as some counties in the U.S. are banning Holocaust literature.

"This censorship has no place in our educational system, and we are grateful to be living in an area where we do not shy away from uncomfortable fact," says Jasper.

Latimer says the efforts of Westchester in remembrance are being emulated across the state Thursday night.
