Historic Yonkers building gets new lease on life

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano broke ground on a historic building that will soon get a new lease on life.
The former Otis Elevator building at 9 Bashford St. will be transformed into 100 "micro-unit" apartments.
Developer Joe Cotter says with the housing market being so expensive in Westchester County, young professionals will be attracted to the building, which is named "Uno" for its relative affordability.
"Our apartments are priced to be $1,500 to $1,800 a month to allow singles to live on their own if they choose," he said.
The micro-units will range in size from 400 to 800 square feet, but what they lack in size, they will make up for in high ceilings and oversized windows.
Tenants are expected to start moving in next spring.
News 12 has learned that the building is 95 percent leased already.
The cost of the construction project is about $15 million.
