Not only are residents in Westchester dealing with a loss of power due to Tuesday night?s violent thunderstorms, but drivers had to circumnavigate around many road closures as well Wednesday.
Highway crews were out in full force trying to clear up debris from the storm, which also brought damaging hail. Routes 202 and 35 in Somers have been closed since Tuesday night after a tree fell and took down power lines. Some exit ramps on the Hutchinson and Bronx River parkways were also closed due to down tree limbs.
Heavy rains also damaged several roads. In one case, runoff from the rain caused large stones to wash up on the street. Hail damaged cars and trucks parked outside, shattering some windshields and leaving residents to clean up after severe weather for the second week in a row.
