And the soaring temperatures has officials reminding Long Islanders to take safety precautions.
Dr. Matthew Projansky, associate chair of emergency medicine at Plainview and Syosset Hospital, says people should be aware of the signs of heat-related illness.
Projansky says symptoms people should look out for is that they may develop nausea, muscle cramps and they may become confused.
The state is also reminding the public about the dangers of leaving a person or pet in the car.
According to the National Highway Safety Administration, there was a 35% increase in the number of children who died of heatstroke in vehicles last year.
