Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
A Bronx woman was sentenced on Thursday to two years in prison for attacking a Metro-North railroad conductor with a pumpkin. Before the October 2021 attack, the train conductor asked the defendant, Alexis Adams, to get off the train because she did not have a ticket. That's when Adams, who was 21-years-old at the time, unleashed an attack on the conductor, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office. Investigators say Adams slammed the pumpkin on the conductor's face and punched her multiple times in the head and face. The pumpkin stem caused lacerations under the victim's eye and near her ear. She had to get stitches. A purse and ID cards that were left behind at the scene helped MTA police to find her. Adams pleaded guilty to felony assault in December 2023. Three years of post-release supervision will follow the prison sentence.
A Spring Valley man involved in a fatal crash in Woodbury has pleaded guilty to several traffic tickets as part of a plea deal. State Police reported that Chaim Gordon crossed a double-yellow line on Route 6 while speeding, resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle. The crash claimed the life of 62-year-old Ik-Song Jin of Monticello. Prosecutors determined that there was no evidence to support criminal charges. During his sentencing in Woodbury Court, Gordon was fined $886 and issued 9 points on his license.
A Middletown man, Liborio Nieto, has pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a child younger than 13. Nieto now faces a sentence of 10 years in state prison, coupled with 10 years of post-release supervision. As part of his sentence, he is required to register as a sex offender. The formal sentencing is scheduled for April.
