Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
A Mount Vernon man is facing life in prison over a fatal shooting outside an apartment building. John Bobbitt has been convicted on second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the Westchester DA's Office. Authorities say Bobbitt fatally shot Kashawn Smith outside of a Millington Street apartment building in April 2020. Bobbitt faces a minimum of 15 years to life in prison. He'll be sentenced next month.
A Tuxedo Park police officer is now on administrative leave after a domestic violence arrest. Officer Adam Basilicata was arrested for harassment by town of Cornwall police on Jan. 28. Authorities say the officer was off duty at the time of the alleged incident. Basilicata was held in town lockup until his arraignment and released on an appearance ticket. An order of protection was issued to the alleged victim. Tuxedo Park police say Basilicata is now on unpaid leave due to his arrest.
A retired Westchester County police officer is facing charges for illegally double dipping from the state pension fund. Anthony Sciacca allegedly stole over $163,000 from the state and local retirement system, according to the state comptroller and the Ulster County DA's office. The charges filed against him include scheme to defraud, grand larceny, defrauding the government, and forgery.
