There will be no Legoland amusement park coming to the town of Haverstraw.
The town board decided to withdraw its proposal for the $250 million park after mounting concerns from residents. Their worries included increased traffic, decreased property values and disruption to the natural surroundings.
The proposed location for Legoland was the Letchworth Village site in Thiells, which was abandoned 20 years ago.
After hearing that the town changed its mind, residents said they were overjoyed. Some said they had even begun discussions about moving elsewhere.
There is no word yet on what else might be built on the Letchworth Village property.
