Community groups against the construction of a natural gas pipeline near Indian Point protested at the Westchester Marriott Hotel in Tarrytown Monday.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission chairman was holding a meeting at the hotel.
Federal regulators gave Spectra Energy the greenlight to move forward on a new natural gas pipeline in March. Environmentalists want them to reconsider that decision.
Last weekend, Indian Point's unit reactor 2 was shut down because of a power loss to several control rods. The protesters say while that was not a major safety concern, it does show an aging facility that needs to be permanently shut down.
Until that happens, the community groups say they will keep protesting the plant, as well as the new pipeline that they believe threatens their safety.
A spokesperson for the NRC tells News 12 that the agency conducted an independent analysis of the natural gas pipeline, and found a rupture would not impact Indian Point.
