After several stabbings in Yonkers this past weekend, some local groups took a stand against violence Wednesday night.

Outreach programs, including SNUG, were in Getty Square hoping to send a message of peace to the community.

John Thompson is chief development officer at the Yonkers Family YMCA and its violence response program SNUG, which is "guns" spelled backwards. It's symbolic of reversing violence, which is something the group hopes to do. 

Thompson says, "What we don't want is for people to become complacent and content with what's going on in their communities."

The group was out in Yonkers for several hours Wednesday evening and says they can always be reached at the Yonkers YMCA.
