Environmentalists met in Ossining yesterday to mark the 42nd anniversary of the Clean Water Act.
A new report shows the 1972 Clean Water Act has helped get rid of pollution, leading to the return of fish and wildlife to the Hudson River.
Paul Gallay, president of watchdog group Riverkeeper, says the act has led to a "renaissance on the Hudson."
However, advocates say the act is needed more than ever because polluters still dump about five million pounds of toxic chemicals into local waterways statewide each year.
