Greenburgh Town officials are set to meet today with the president of Pets Alive about saving the no-kill animal shelter.

Engineers say the shelter's building on South Warehouse Lane in Elmsford is not safe enough to keep open. Pets Alive officials are now selling the property and moving the animals to their facility in Middletown.

Yesterday, animal lovers and local lawmakers came together at Greenburgh Town Hall to try to come up with a plan to save the shelter.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner says he wants the shelter to stay and that research shows that it may not be as easy to sell the property as originally thought. "I'm optimistic. We found the deed restriction which limits the ability of Pets Alive to sell the property to a commercial developer. That's huge because I don't think they were aware of it," says Feiner.
