Two young girls are recovering this morning after being hit by a car when they were walking on a sidewalk in Yonkers.
Police say a driver lost control in front of a Yonkers post office at 79 Main St. in Getty Square yesterday afternoon.
According to police, the driver of a Ford Explorer was trying to park when another car tapped it from behind. They say, for some reason, the driver of the SUV hit the gas and jumped the curve, knocked over a parking meter, and then struck the two young girls as they walked on the sidewalk with their mother. The driver also ran over a railing and bushes and grazed the post office building.
The children were taken to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time, police believe the incident was an accident, and no tickets have been issued.
