Police are searching for the suspect who gunned down a Garrison resident on Route 9 Wednesday.
Putnam County authorities say 49-year-old John Marcinak, the owner of Garrison Garage, was shot to death next to his place of business shortly after 12 p.m. Autopsy results that were released on New Year's Day left no doubt it was a murder.
?Mr. Marcinak's death was ruled a homicide, and multiple gunshots wounds were listed as the cause of death,? says Capt. William McNamara, of Putnam County Sheriff?s Department.
Investigators were at the scene of the fatal shooting Friday, interviewing motorists who might have witnessed the crime. The Putnam County Sheriff's Department has put up an electronic sign to remind drivers of the day and the approximate time the shooting took place, hoping that someone will come forward.
In the meantime, Garrison firefighters placed purple and black bunting on their firehouse to honor a man they say gave a lot to the community and to the fire department.
Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to call the Putnam County Sheriff's Department at 845-225-4300.
