Two people were arrested after police busted up a backdoor gambling operation in Yonkers.
Police say detectives from the Yonkers Intellegence Unit staged a raid on the popular Riverview Stationary store at 69 Riverdale Ave. They say store owner Wilbert Hernandez, 39, and store worker Gustavo Maturana, 50, both of Yonkers, were arrested.
The two were charged with promoting gambling, plus possession of gambling devices and records.
During the raid, investigators recovered sports-betting materials, two Joker Poker machines and $6,000 in cash.
On Friday, two men opened the store around 6:30 a.m. The men, who did not want to be identified, told News 12 "no comment" when asked about the gambling allegations.
However, the store abruptly closed around 8 a.m., but reopened about an hour later. No reason has been given for the closure.
