Funeral service held for fallen Yonkers Detective Sgt. Gualdino

Gualdino, who had been set to retire in just nine months, leaves behind a wife and two children.

A funeral service was held Wednesday for Yonkers Detective Sgt. Frank Gualdino, who was killed on duty last week.  
It was a sea of blue at the ceremony that was held at Sacred Heart, as more than 1,000 police officers came out to pay their respects.
Gualdino was honored by a huge procession that included the Yonkers motorcycle unit, a unit he led and organiz4r countless funeral details.
It was a somber yet beautiful sendoff for the 53 year-old, who friends lovingly called Ferbie, who was posthumously promoted to detective.
The 53-year-old was killed last Thursday during a crash on Tuckahoe Road.
Authorities say an unlicensed 16-year-old speeding in a BMW lost control of his vehicle, crossed the double yellow lines and hit Gualdino’s unmarked police car along with a Bee-Line bus.  
The 16-year-old had just received their learners permit two weeks earlier. They currently remain hospitalized in critical condition.  
Wake services were held for Gualdino on Tuesday. Despite the weather, many turned out to pay their respects to the decorated 24-year veteran of the police force. 
"You can tell just by the presence here today the kind of cop he was. People are coming out in droves to visit him and pay their respects,” said police commissioner Christopher Sapienza.
