Hundreds of people gathered at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster Saturday to say their final goodbyes to a mother and daughter who were killed in an alleged drunken driving accident Monday.
"It's a crushing thing for the family," says family friend Camille Yuscak. "I don't know what they're going to do."
Brewster police say 35-year-old Conses Garcia-Zacarias was driving under the influence when he slammed into Lori Donahue and her 8-year-old daughter, Kayla, as they were leaving the Seven Stars Dance Studio at around 7 p.m.
According to authorities, Garcia-Zacarias is an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who was driving without a license. On Friday, his charges were upgraded to two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years behind bars.
"We just feel terrible and hope there's some justice out of all of this," says family friend Karen Schmidt.
