Emergency officials from across the Hudson Valley held a full-scale Indian Point emergency drill in Pomona Wednesday.
Under the exercise, emergency personnel responded to a simulated, radioactive release at the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant that resulted in a 5-mile radius of the facility being evacuated. This is a practice run for a similar exercise that will be graded by FEMA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in October.
In the event of a real emergency, buses would be sent out to pick up people who rely on public transportation. There is a website for people with special needs in Rockland to register for in advance, as well as a state website to sign up for alerts.
