A Yonkers woman claims a women's golf league discriminated against her because she hit the ball farther than she should have at a driving range.

"She said, 'Myself and the staff at WMGA feel threatened by you,'" Marianna Monaco, 23, says one of the heads of the Women's Metropolitan Golf Association told her during a tournament on Long Island last week.

Monaco, an aspiring professional golfer, says it happened after she hit a ball beyond the 180-yard driving range into a public area at the North Shore Country Club. She had been warned not to do that.

"The WMGA said I was violating the club policy by flagrantly hitting balls over the net," she says. "It was one ball, and I got the OK from the club teaching professional."

Monaco says she plans on sitting down with an attorney to seek legal action for what she calls discrimination.

"I've been at the top of the leaderboard in every tournament, and they feel as if they are no longer catering to the older ladies, who aren't playing at these events," Monaco says.

The golf association did not immediately reply to a News 12 request for comment.

Monaco says the association refunded her for the tournament and her membership. But she's considering suing anyway because now she says she has to travel out of the state to play in tournaments.
