The Food Bank for Westchester warehouse in Elmsford is struggling to keep up with the demand for supplies.
To draw attention to the county's hunger problem, the organization is launching a monthlong campaign called "Go Orange to End Hunger."
Local and state officials, along with a host of community organizations, came together Tuesday to lend their support.
Westchester County will do its part by using the digital board outside the County Center in White Plains to encourage people to text "FB4W" to 88500 to donate.
Food bank officials say there is an urgent need to keep shelves filled because one in five Westchester residents, roughly 200,000 people, is struggling to put food on their tables.
Alex Chavarria runs the Carver Center, a food pantry in Port Chester. He sees the tremendous need county families face on a daily basis.
"We do our best to provide the essentials: fresh produce, grains, everything," he says.
The Food Bank for Westchester distributed six million meals last year to people in need.
