State and local officials gathered in Monsey as the last streetlamp was replaced with an LED lightbulb on West Maple Avenue near Manny Weldler Park.
It’s just the first part of a $5 million project that changed 1,300 existing lightbulbs.
Officials say 2,500 more will be added throughout the unincorporated areas of Ramapo by next spring.
The town partnered with the New York Power Authority through the state's Smart Streetlighting Program.
"We are doing everything we can with our partners…to make this town a safer and better place for all of our residents," said Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht.
