The New York State Police department appointed its first African American female captain on Thursday.
Lt. Trenee Young was promoted to the rank of captain of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Young trained in the State Police Academy in 2007 and then was assigned to Troop K in Somers.
She served Westchester County for eight years before she was promoted to sergeant.
