Members of Friends of Firefighters, a nonprofit organization providing mental health support to firefighters and their families, gathered at Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse on Saturday for a 50-mile training ride in preparation for a major event across the pond.
Fifteen firefighters, including several from Westchester County, will travel to Ireland in September for a 223.4-mile bike ride, starting in Dublin on Sept. 9 and ending in Kinsale on Sept. 11. The ride, which will run along the coast of southern Ireland, will culminate in a ceremony honoring those lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and those who have died from 9/11-related illnesses.
The organization, founded in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, provides confidential, free mental health counseling and wellness services to current and retired FDNY firefighters and their families.
Donations are being accepted for both the bike ride and the organization's mission of providing free mental health services. For more information, click here.
