Firefighters extinguish 2-day fire at Port Newark scrapyard

A fire at a Port Newark scrapyard has finally been put out, two days after it began.
Newark’s public safety director says that the flames were deep inside of a 60-foot pile of scrap metal, which made it hard for crews to put out.
The smoke from the fire could be seen for miles and caused air quality in the area to peak at unhealthy levels.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
