Firefighters rushed to a Monsey home that caught fire Tuesday.
Officials say the fire erupted just before 3 p.m. at a home on Maple Leaf Road. Eight fire departments were called to the scene.
Monsey Fire Chief Andrew Schlissel says the fire started in a second floor apartment. Firefighters faced some challenges, including the heat, sending one firefighter to the hospital from heat exhaustion.
It is unclear if the multifamily home is legal, although officials say it has only one gas meter.
Two people were home when the fire started. They made it out unharmed.
Neighbors say the owner wasn't home at the time of the fire and was on vacation, but is headed home to assess the damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
