A fast-moving fire tore through an apartment building in Sleepy Hollow early Sunday morning and tenants received help from an unlikely rescuer. Taxi cab driver Peter Mooney wasn?t shuttling clients Sunday morning, he was busy saving lives. He works next door to the apartment building on Cortland Street and when he saw smoke, he grabbed a ladder and started helping people escape the flames. The Sleepy Hollow Fire Department along with firefighters from Tarrytown and Ossining arrived quickly and contained the blaze. Fire investigators believe the cause of the fire was electrical. The blaze started near an extension cord used for an air conditioner in a third-floor apartment. Everyone was able to get out of the building safely.
