A fast-moving fire destroyed a garage and upstairs apartment at a home in Pound Ridge.
Pound Ridge fire officials say the blaze broke out around 8 a.m. today on a Stone Hill Road property.
Three other fire departments and 75 firefighters had to be called in to fight the heavy flames from the more than 100-year-old wood structure. Crews say there were several small explosions as gasoline inside the cars in the garage ignited.
It was a two-and-half-hour battle which firefighters say would have been worse if the garage had been attached to a home. "Crews couldn't even make it to the door it was so hot on the second floor. The whole thing was completely blowing out the window, blowing out the garage doors, fully involved," says Pound Ridge First Assistant Fire Chief Justin Brent.
There were no major injuries, but one firefighter was treated for exhaustion.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but at this time is not being considered suspicious.
