A family is safe after a house fire in Brewster Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was on North Salem Road. Fire crews say it started around 4 p.m.
Officials say the homeowners had minor injuries.
The home has extensive damage. Fire crews say conditions inside the home were not safe because the stairs collapsed, so they needed to pull firefighters out at one point.
Officials say another challenge was that there are no fire hydrants in the area so they needed to find a water source about a mile away.
Crews from Carmel, Croton Falls, and Goldens Bridge were also on the scene.
