People who rely on food stamps in the Hudson Valley are in for some drastic changes.
This month, a major change goes into effect for people who receive SNAP benefits, also known as food stamps. People between the ages of 19 and 49 who don't have dependents and are considered able-bodied and capable of holding down a job will only be able to receive food stamps for three months in any three year period.
The cuts are all part of the improved economy. Workers at the People to People pantry in Nanuet are expecting an uptick in the number of people coming through their doors.
Susan Sherwood, commissioner of Social Services, says not everyone is going to be able to find a job so easily. She says social services is here to help and does offer training.
