After the Transport Workers Union (TWU) rejected a new contract, fear of another transit strike has gripped commuters in Westchester and Hudson Valley.

The workers rejected the contract by a seven-vote margin out of more than 22,000 votes cast Friday. The three-day strike in December had commuters resorting to other less convenient means of transportation to get work. Many in Yonkers sympathize with the union members, but agree another strike should not happen.

TWU President Robert Toussaint did not address the possibility of another transit strike. He said he would once again be in contact with MTA officials. Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman Peter Kalikow has issued a statement saying the MTA intends to seek binding arbitration to resolve the contract dispute.
