A family-owned hair salon is asking Gov. Andrew Cuomo for leniency because some of their locations aren't allowed to open as part of Phase 2.
C&C Unisex in both the Galleria at Crystal Run and Poughkeepsie Galleria won’t be reopening Tuesday, simply because they’re in a mall.
Under the executive order from Gov. Cuomo, retail shopping malls with 100,000 square feet or more of retail space must remain closed to the public in Phase 2.
"We have a ton of free space inside the mall. I think that's what makes us safer than most other locations, especially department and grocery stores," say Giuseppe Acampora, of C&C Unisex Salon.
The Acamporas have put a safety plan in place, installing Plexiglas barriers, using half of their chairs to spread out work stations, not using blow dryers and not offering services that aren't allowed, like waxing.
"We wanna be doing what we've been doing for 40 years and that's making our clients happy. Making our employees happy," says Acampora.
A spokesman for Gov. Cuomo tells News 12 that the full reopening of malls is under discussion but remains to be determined
