The family of a Hudson Valley woman who died after a botched medical procedure has reached a multimillion-dollar settlement.
Raina Ferraro of Goshen was 19 years old in 2013, when she suffered severe brain damage during a medical procedure at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow.
Ferraro was undergoing a routine endoscopy for stomach pains at the time when her family says she suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest during the procedure.
Ferraro's parents say the hospital and its doctors were careless and negligent by failing to properly administer anesthesia.
It allegedly took the hospital two weeks after the botched procedure to talk to the parents. When hospital officials reached out, Ferraro's parents say they would not explain what went wrong.
Her parents reached an $18 million settlement with Phelps and two other defendants.
Raina died last month at the age of 21.
