Families headed to Oakland Beach in Rye Tuesday to get one more day of fun in the sun before school starts.
For many kids, an extra day at the beach meant adventure, as they trolled the sand and surf for summer surprises.
Westchester's beaches and pools are supposed to close after Labor Day, but Tuesday turned out to be the hottest day of the year.
"The hottest day of the year is fabulous," said beachgoer Debbi Capelli "It's like trade winds from Aruba, but then around 2 p.m. it got real hot."
