A former Mount Vernon planning commissioner accused of funneling more than $2 million to her boyfriend was found guilty of mail fraud Tuesday.

Following a five-week trial, Constance "Gerrie" Post and her businessman boyfriend, Wayne Charles, were convicted of using secret city computer service contracts to steal $2.3 million from Mount Vernon taxpayers. Charles was also found guilty of making false statements to investigators.

City officials became suspicious of Post's behavior after seeing how much was being spent on computer services.

Defense attorneys maintain there is no physical evidence to prove their clients were involved in any wrongdoing.

Post could face up to 40 years in prison, while Charles could be looking at 45 years behind bars. Both could be ordered to pay more than $250,000 in fines. Post and Charles will be sentenced July 23.
