The New York State Office of Emergency Management (SEMO) sent out an erroneous e-mail message Wednesday warning of an emergency alert at the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant.
At 1:57 p.m. a message warned people and the media of an emergency situation at Indian Point, but, there was no real problem. SEMO officials say the mistake was made during a training exercise at the Joint Information Center in Hawthorne. The center is set up to send about 170 e-mails in the event of an emergency to members of the media, lawmakers and members of the public who have asked to be put on an alert mailing list. The e-mail was supposed to say, ?this is an exercise.?
Twenty minutes after the initial sending, the alert was rescinded and "corrected" to just a drill.
