After months of delays, the multi-million dollar Empire City casino opened its doors at the Yonkers Raceway Wednesday. Officials say Empire City will employ 1,400 people and take in an estimated $400 million a year. City officials are counting on millions of that money for the city's financially strapped schools. It is estimated that the Yonkers School District will receive $20 million annually from the casino?s revenue. While gamblers couldn't wait to take advantage of the 1,800 video lottery terminal machines, the horsemen at the track say they are upset there's no harness racing. Officials say they plan to have more than 5,000 video lottery terminals up and running by the end of the year.
