An Eastchester elementary school held classes Monday after the weekend death of a 7-year-old girl.
The Westchester County Health Department said it was safe for students and staff to resume classes at the Greenvale Elementary School.
Lilly Love, a second-grader at the school, died at Westchester Medical Center Saturday.
There is no word yet on the exact cause of death, but health officials have called Love's death an isolated, tragic incident. They also let school leaders know there's no danger inside any of the classrooms.
School officials said that Lilly had been out sick for a few days two weeks ago, but she was in class last week.
While many parents expressed their concerns to News 12 as to whether it was safe for students to be in the building, school officials said they would not take chances on student safety.
"We spent a great deal of time with the Department of Health on Saturday and if that had changed in any way, certainly we would not be here today," said Eastchester Schools Superintendent Dr. Walter Moran.
Grief counselors were available for students and their families.
Funeral services for Lilly Love are scheduled for Wednesday.
Donations in Love's name will be used to rebuild a playground at the school.
The Health Department said there is a limit on what information can be released publicly due to privacy laws.
