Voters in the East Ramapo School District gave a thumbs up to the 2025-26 budget on Tuesday with the "yeses'' outnumbering the "nos" 2-1.

District data shows 622 "no" votes and 1,246 "yes" votes.

School board members applauded as the news was announced.

"We're really excited about this," said Shimon Rose, the school board president during Tuesday night's meeting. "Being able to provide the children with the services that they need. All children in the district."

According to the school district's website, this is the first time voters have approved a budget on it's first attempt since 2021.

News 12 spoke with two of the people who say they voted in favor of next year's budget.

"I'm really impressed. I'm really happy that it passed," said Willie Trotman, the Spring Valley NAACP branch president. "I think that every kid has a right to an education."

"I'm really happy that it passed because we could not afford to go into a contingency budget," said Carole Anderson, a public-school advocate and former school board member. She pointed specifically to director positions for math, science and social studies.

District officials tout next year's budget as having no increase in taxes, while also bringing back programs and other support staff.

In a letter to the community, interim Superintendent Anthony DiCarlo thanked the community and shared excitement about the future of the district's schools.
