The small community of Fallsburg in Sullivan County held a forum Saturday to discuss ways to deal with a growing number of drug-related incidents.
In October, parents Lisa Mitchell, 32, and Adam Ingbar, 34, were arrested after an alleged drug deal in the bathroom during a school dance at Benjamin Cosor Elementary School.
Last fall, a teacher's aide at the same school was arrested on drug possession charges.
Earlier this year, heroin was found in the staff bathroom at the elementary school and syringes were found in the high school parking lot in October.
Parents, drug counselors and students attended the drug forum to send the message that drugs are not welcome at school.
While sessions like the drug forum are not expected to solve the concerns overnight, many agree that they are at least a start.
Organizers say similar forums will be planned to include counselors, educators and police to educate the public on the consequences of drug use and addiction.
